Banteay Meanchey Governor Urges Officials to Cooperate with Thailand to Prevent Border Crime

BANTEAY MEANCHEY: The Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province, Ou Rathrey, ordered the authorities along the border, in cooperation with the Special Task Force and the Thai authorities to continue preventing the influx of illegally untaxed goods and crime along the border, especially to prevent cross-border crime and drug trafficking problems.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new director of the Malai Border Checkpoint on Monday (9 May 2022) in front of the Malai Border Checkpoint, Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province, instructed the new director to continue cooperation to strengthen relations with the Thai side to facilitate the flow of goods over the border. This checkpoint currently does not allow people to enter and exit, however, provincial authorities from both Cambodia and Thailand will work together and increase cooperation to facilitate the entrance and exit of people across this checkpoint.

At the same time, he also urged the border authorities to strengthen their work, focusing on preventing illegally migration across the border into Thailand, drug trafficking, and weapons-smuggling.

The Malai Border Checkpoint is one of the three border checkpoints of Banteay Meanchey Province, located in Kbal Spean Village, Malai Commune, Malai District, opposite Nong Preu Checkpoint, Phan Sek Commune, Aranyaprathet District, Sras Kaeo Province in Thailand.

In the first quarter of 2022, there were 3,412 large and small trucks and a total of 3,883 delivery drivers and transport crew that passed through the Malai Border Checkpoint, collecting a total customs and excise revenue of 2,408,913 riel.
